CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Theme: Integrating Social Sciences in Public Health

After more than a year, the COVID-19 pandemic has greatly plagued the lives of people at a global scale. Not only has it disrupted the flow of goods and people, but it has also reintroduced the longstanding flaws and issues within our public health system, especially in the Philippines.

What better way to launch the inaugural issue of the PSSC’s One Social Science Journal than to inquire into this biggest health issue that plagued the entire world. The social sciences, being committed to a scientific examination of human behaviour, play a pivotal role in understanding public health issues and solutions, and such understanding could be key into how the next pandemic can be better managed or prevented. For its introductory issue, One Social Science Journal (OSSJ) is inviting contributions from social scientists, researchers, public health professionals, and students that inquire into theoretical frames, methods, and issues of public health in the Philippines using social science perspectives and principles.

The Journal accepts scholarly works from the fields of political science, linguistics, public health, psychology, sociology, public administration, communication, anthropology, and other related disciplines with strong policy implications on public health issues in the Philippines. The Journal is encouraging submissions of researches based on, but not limited to, the following:

Social scientists’ diverse perspective on public health

  • Relationship of social sciences and public health
  • History of public health in the Philippines
  • Role of power and politics in public health policies
  • Public health communications during a pandemic
  • Role of power in fiscal and economic prioritizations in Bayanihan 1, 2 and 3
  • Mental health in the Philippines
