On 23 February 2021, Dr. George Emmanuel R. Borrinaga was conferred the PSSC’s 9th Virginia A. Miralao (VAM) Excellence in Research Award for his article titled “José Rizal in the Emotional Landscape of Samar and Leyte at the Turn of the 20th Century.” The awarding ceremony was followed by Dr. Borrinaga's presentation of his winning article.

With the theme "Historical Fact and Fiction," the latest issue of PSSC's Social Science Information contributes to discourse on the revision of some Philippine historical facts and lays out the social sciences’ perspectives on the making of history.

In this issue, we feature three articles on history, recognize a social scientist, and provide updates on significant Council events in 2019 and 2020.
The theme for this issue emanated from pre-pandemic times when voices of dissent on the revision of some Philippine historical facts began to reverberate among historians, academics, and watchers of societal events. The PSSC responds to this concern and uses the Social Science Information (SSI) to contribute to the discourse and lay out the social sciences’ perspectives on the making of history.

"There is no question that the Marcos family’s vast ill-gotten wealth helped them regain political power. After all, according to Dr. Llanes, 'politics in the country is run by money.' It is also their wealth that allowed them to build and grow their disinformation network for decades.
