Interrogating Migration

Interrogating Migration Image

The studies in this voulme provide a critical interrogation of the socio-political and economic dynamics that emerge from international migration. The writers aim to answer the following questions: In what ways have the phenomenon and experience of international migration transformed Philippine society- including the state, interest groups, the family and other social institutions? How have family welfare and gender roles been affected by migration policy and attendant legislation? What new discourses on citizenship have emerged? The behavior of migrants as claim holders is also scrutinized, especially in their participation in democratic processes, as citizens entitled to vote in political elections. Finally, the methodological issues that underlie the estimated effects of remittances on the families of overseas Filipino migrant workers are assessed.
